Amber to Mercedes

I am a huge fan of Glee. (Although I don't really like this season very much. The character of Unique is like a terrible replacement for Amber. He is a bit too much for me.) I've loved Amber Riley since I saw her on Oprah. Not only is Ms. Riley talented but she is also dressed very well anytime you see her. I always have a problem with the way plus sized women are dressed but they are usually dressed in a way that does not flatter them. Jennifer Hudson in Dream Girls is the perfect example in some scenes she was dressed great and in others there was an obvious lack of shape wear. But on Glee the people in charge of costumes did an awesome job dressing Amber's body. Amber is very curvy and she always dressed beautifully.

Who could forget her unbelievable rendition of 'I will always love you.' She not only sang the song beautifully but who could forget that gorgeous red gown she wore? Breathtaking. Amazing.
What about this amazing look for the 2011 Grammy Awards? Her choker shoulder jewelry is too fierce. Simply put Ms. Riley is gorgeous and has an amazing team who works for her and her body. I can't wait to see the other things and outfits we will see her in.

From the Runway to the Sanctuary

From the Runway to the Sanctuary
So here is another church appropriate outfit. Everyone loves colored skinnies!!! The striped blazer is a trendy piece that works for all body types. The knee high boots help you look cute and tred through the snow. However you cannot wear knee high boots that over 5 inches. You are at church at worship the Lord not to look like a hooker! There is a such thing as heels that are too high and with boots that go over the knee its easy to look hookerish. Be cute and trendy. Not like you are ready to swing around a pole.

Lucille Ball Inspired Look

Lucille Ball Inspired Look
Add caption
I love, love, love, love Lucille Ball! I own (thanks to my sister Sharda) every season of I Love Lucy including the Lucy-Desi comedy hour AND The long long trailer, Forever, Darling and Too Many Girls. So I'm a pretty big fan of the show and Lucille Ball herself. Because I am starting to get into dresses I decided to do this post. I am fan of when ladies actually walked outside and were put together. I love a man in a suit and I think nothing is sexier.

Lucy wore a lot of pencil skirts and things that attenuated her waist. She was a very fashionable woman. I'm not saying this because I am a huge fan but because its true. One has to remember that everyone watched Lucy. Television was huge in Lucy's time. She was a trendsetter. If Lucy Ricardo got pearls, Stone Martin furs,  or new furniture. Every woman in America needed the same things! People loved Lucy because she was funny but also because she was trendy.
The look above features a classic pencil skirt. A simple button down short sleeved shirt. But the real Lucy influence is the cropped lacey cardigan. This was something that Lucy wore quite often on the show. To give this look a more modern feel I included ankle strapped nude pumps (CLOSET STAPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!). So take a risk and go out looking 1950's chic!

First Lady of the United States representing!

I love me some Michelle Obama! She is everything a First Lady should be. Class. Elegance. Sophistication. Educated. Eloquent. Wife. Mother. I could go on and on and on about her! I'm only 25 and I've only had the opportunity to vote in two presidental elections. My earliest memory of a President was Bill Clinton. That's exactly my point with this particular post. I don't remember any of the other first ladies doing much of anything. I mean Hilary was involved somewhat but it is Michelle Obama that is stepping out and not just becoming a Mrs. President. She is her own woman. With thoughts! And real actions behind her words. Not only is she all of this but she is quickly becoming the most stylish First Lady we've had since Jackie-O !!!!!!!!!! Women everywhere love her style. She is honest. She is open.  She actually has a personality. She is our First Lady. Below I've got some of more Michelle Obama

SPRINTERIZE your summer dresses

SPRINTERIZE your summer dressesDuring the latter half of 2012, I decided I like to wear dresses. I wasn't  a huge fan before that. I bought a lot of dresses last summer and then winter happened. So I decide to SPRINTERIZE my dresses. Tights, jean jackets, and knee high boots keep me warm. I'm starting to love accessories too. So I throw those in whenever I can. I alway make sure I have an extra pair of socks with me to keep my feet warm. So don't put those dresses away! SPRINTERIZE them!

Sol-Angel

Most of you her hip swinging, curvy, diva of an older sister Beyonce but few know that Solange has an amazing sense of fashion. Solange is constantly overshadowed and underrated because of Beyonce. (I'm not a Beyonce basher. I actually like her) You won't see Solange performing as much nowadays though. But when she does step out she is always in something so beautiful. Whether dressed up or dressed down you can count on the Sol-Angel to be rocking something unique. Her personal style reminds me so much of Duro Olowu's work. Her style is funky, earthy, and vibrant.  Solange is very petite with delicate bone structure. She is model thin which most of the time I'm not a fan of but it works for her. Her clothing is amazing because it possess influence from different cultures with its various prints. It is rare that you will find her in curve hugging designs her sister is famous for rocking. But all in all she has many different looks which she wears well.
I would describe Solange as a rebel. She most definitely defines herself by her own standards not the standards that others place on her. I love Solange's style, personality and her music. She released a cd shortly before Beyonce's I am....Sasha Fierce. Her cd was overshadowed by her sister's music. But in the race of fashion against fashion Solange is the clear winner! Here are some more pictures of the Sol-Angel.

Christianity and Fashion??

I am a Christian. I am not necessarily here to shove my beliefs down your throat. I am also not here to tell you your immortal soul is going to burn in a lake of hell fire, brimstone, and sulfur. Its not my style. I find that as a christian and a #fashionista it is hard to blend the two. As a christian, most people think you're supposed to be mildly Amish as far as dressing is concern. As a #fashionista, most people think you wear feathers, glitter, rainbows, and at least one unicorn. Well I don't do either. I am a christian FIRST and then a #fashionista. How do I blend the two? Well the answer is semi difficult depending on what kind of church you attend. My church is fairly laid back, not saying that we come in the church with bandeau tops exposing our bellies and jeans so tight it is impossible to pray. None of that happens. My church is pretty fashion forward. My pastor's wife wear 5inch heels  My pastor has custom made gingham suits, suits with sequins, even a suit with a large elaborate bird on the back. Special events, banquests and holidays are like going to a fashion show.  All of the clothing seen here has been worn to church or a church event. I think that each person in the slideshow has a flair for fashion. I could have picked a lot more pictures but I didn't want this post to be super long. I will continue this particular segment by showing you different clothing that is stylish and yet appropriate for church or a church event. Stay tuned!

SPRINTERIZE your summer Dresses.

SPRINTERIZE your summer dressesDuring the latter half of 2012, I decided I liked wearing dresses. Before that I was compeletely against them. I hated that you have to wear so many contraptions with them. Spanx and the other things. But I found undergarmets that were comfortable to wear with dress. I feel feminine and girl. I really feel like a woman when I wear a dress. Some ladies wear their power suits to feel like Superwoman. Me? A dress. Nothing is more feminine to me. Moving on...So last summer I got tons of dresses and then winter comes. I was a bit disappointed. But I decided to SPRINTERIZE them! The knee high boots and jean jacket keep me warm. I usually keep an extra pair of socks in my bag. Its never too cold for a dress!

Coffee is the new black

So I am not only a student but also a barista for the Starbucks Coffee Company. Yay for the #greenapronmafia. I also work for a non profit. So one day myself and a colleague were going to pick a few items up for one of the many classes that we host. As we got in her car to go to Walmart, she carries this like huge cup of coffee from Dunkin' Donuts. When we go into Walmart she takes this cup of coffee with her. We stop and grab some food from a pizza place, yet again here comes this massive cup of coffee. We return to the office with the stuff for the meeting, our lunch, and this Dunkin' Donuts cup. When we finally sit down to eat I point out to her that while she carried this cup around for an hour and a half, she never actually drank it. I'm saying all this to say that carrying cups from the various coffee shops is the new black.

Celebrities carry around Starbucks cups with handle bags filled pastries. So do we! I guess by carrying around a cup of coffee we feel closer to celebrities. Drinking gourmet coffee and eating high priced pastries makes us feel special, almost god-like. There is a certain is a certain air that people have when they drink Starbucks I see it all the time. Going into Starucks and knowing how to order a drink properly makes people feel sophisicated. This is especially true for teens. Drinking Starbucks as a teen is like a huge deal. I work in the mornings mostly and right along with the suit and ties are the private school kids waiting. Sometimes they are by themselves or sometimes they are with parents but most of the time they are by themselves. I'm not saying that you need to go out and purchase stock from Starbucks. This isn't even an advertisement for the company. Trust me they are MOST DEFINITELY NOT PAYING ME FOR THIS! I'm just pointing out a trend that I am seeing alot. I wouldn't be surprise if a Starbucks cup made an appearance on a runway in the near future.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter..........SPRINTER?

Its that almost magical time of year. No not winter. Not spring yet either. Its something that we will call SPRINTER. SPRINTER is that time of year when its still cold on some days but then its magically 65 degrees the next day. I live in Cleveland so this happens quite often. There could be a whole blizzard one day and the next day the sun is shining and the skies are beautifully blue. In such a time of uncertainty what is a fashionista to do? No one wants to wear heavy wool sweaters everyday. So I came up with a few essentials that are needed to survive this fickle weather.

Sprinter Essentials

Everything in this picture every woman already has in her closet. However it is easy to over look these basic items to shop for more of the same items. Most of the items I picked are good for layering. SPRINTER is most definitely layering weather because you never know what the weather holds. Throwing an open front cardigan with a belt cinches your waist and gives you a pulled together look. The open front cardigan and belt can be wore everywhere. From the office to happy hour.  Again because this all about layering if your office is too warm then you can take the cardigan off and keep the belt around your waist still giving you a cinched feel. The messenger bad was chosen because it is big enough to carry around your layers.

The fleece lined tights can double as leggings if they aren't sheer. Wear under a dress or under a tunic length top. I personally feel pants are constricting and I prefer to wear tights and leggings most of the year. So these are great for those of you who feel the same way. Traditional tights offer little protection against blowing winds but these are amazing for staying warm. Again in Cleveland, the wind chill can make your life miserable. These tights are Cleveland test. Cleveland approved.

The parka is an essential if you live in cold climates. But this one has a hood with is SO IMPORTANT!!!! What if you are going out and your hair is done? The weather is cold and the winding is blowing but you don't want to mess your hair up? Hooded coat!!!!!! I love love love hoods on coats!!!!! The hood will keep your head warm and hair intact.

Finally, the slouchy beanie for one of those days when you don't want to do your hair. The slouchy beanie is a year round closet staple. You see these most of time during winter, Sprinter, and spring. So there you have it my essentials for Sprinter. I hope you enjoy.
