Dreaming of her Style: Selena

We've all seen the movie. It comes on all the time on VH1. We've heard at least one song from the late Selena. But have we looked at her as a style icon? I think we should. Selena design ALL of her stage outfits! Everyone knows about her bustier collection but its interesting at least to me that she designed it all.

This jumpsuit was one of her most famous looks. All her costumes were desgined so that she could move freely around the stage. She was simply flawless!
She was not only beautiful but she also gave back to her community and was extremely friendly. Her life was tragically cut short. She remains a cultural icon. Without her there would be no J.Lo, Adrienne Bailon, Shakira, or any other hispanic female artist. I could fall in love with her music and who she was.

Spring Trend Alert

Spring Trend AlertMost of you are already doing this but I decided to post about it anyway. Mixing Prints! Stripes and Polka Dots used to be a major faux-pas. Now its one of the biggest trends! I love this trend personally. Thrifting would be the best way to achieve this trend. Thrift stores always have the best stuff. Seriously! Most of the most fashionable people I know shop at the thrift store. Its not just a song, try it. Vintage is also chic. The outfit above is an example of mixed prints. I like the Aztec in the skirt. The polka dot shoes let people know that you don't take yourself too seriously. I hope you enjoy this look and don't be afraid to laugh at yourself. Being humble is always chic.

Mae West Inspired Look

Mae West Inspired LookSo as you can probably tell I'm a huge may of anything that happened before 1960. I really enjoy this era because one had to be talented to be famous. Most stars were very talented; they were triple threats. Singing. Dancing. Acting. Nowadays if you sell your flesh on a CD cover then you can be famous. I digress. This is another exclusively plus size look inspired by Mae West. Mae was known for her feather boas, lace dresses, and her attitude. She was more tough than most of her male co stars. Everything about Mae was big. Her dresses were usually form fitting and she WERKED each one. Here I've give you two options for a lace dress. (the black one is only $60!!!!) The accessories give you a nice pop of spring color. The earrings and necklace are in true Mae West style. Over the top! Again everything about her was big. So you couldn't complete the outfit without something big and blingy. Enjoy ladies, and don't forget the attitude!

Let's take a Jurnee

Jurnee Smollett-Bell. I've loved seeing her since she was the only black girl on Full House. Smollett-Bell has grown into her beauty and she is now a rising star. She was phenomenal in Temptation . She was sexy without being over the top.  Even when she was under dressed she shined through. Her style is seriously girly. I like her style because she is not trying to sell her flesh. I may have said this is an earlier post but your flesh should not be your only hustle. She is very petite which can be difficult as far as finding clothing but she makes it work.

She has long slender legs and a tiny waist. She doesn't use that as an excuse to come out in barely there clothing. (Here on this blog I like to highlight all shapes and sizes). I love that she is a young, married, black woman. She is another role model that should be looked to instead reality t.v. stars. I am also so happy that she has not become a victim of the entertainment industry. I'm so excited to see what is in store for Jurnee.

Hello Spring!

Hello Spring! So Spring is here! (I'm going to keep saying it so that the weather holds up). You've put away most of your winter things but there are a few pieces you didn't get to wear :( .  It's friday night and your boo thang or the girls call you and say ' I wanna go somewhere'. What are you going to wear? Well here's an idea. A pencil skirt with strappy sandals and a leather crop jacket for some edge! This outfit is fire, if I do say so myself. Even better than that the black will slim you and the sandals bring the fire to this otherwise demure fit. The top is black BUT sheer which will complement your legs (which you have been working on all winter). Enjoy those appetizers and jazz!

Christian Clothing Spotlight: CVNT Army

Lately I've been thinking of how I can keep you informed on all things fashion and christian. The idea of this spotlight came out of a meeting with my internship about upcoming events. I decided to showcase Christian clothing designers and/or lines. So the first is CVNT Army. I'm currently working as an intern to help bring brand recognition to this lifestyle brand.
This was birthed in 2007 as lifestyle brand. Glen and his team have recently launched their Spring XIII line called " Divine Warfare." The brand would be considered 'streetwear.' Most of the pieces are unisex and they have a gritty urban feel to them. I love the pieces because one can dressed them up or down.  Everyone who works with CVNT Army actually cares about you as an individual. The barrick(showroom) isn't just a place where you shop, although there are plently of items for you to look through. The barrick of CVNT Army is a place where if you need prayer or a word of encouragement Glen and his lovely wife Laeh will be more than happy to assist you. For more on CVNT Army please check out their website (http://www.cvntarmy.com/), Facebook, and Instagram page.

Betty Grable Inspired Look

Betty Grable Inspired LookGorgeous Grable Gams! That pretty much sums the entirey of Betty Grable's career. She had beautiful legs and that is how she made she money. ( I love that she didn't have to be naked to make it. But that's another story.) She was known for her legs and her singing; but mostly her legs. She was married to Harry James ( don't quote me). She was one of the orinigal pinups. She was the first booty tooch. She was also the first with this back pose that is famous all over Instagram and Facebook.Since the weather is breaking it is time to show off those legs. I included two skirts and a pair of high waisted shorts. I want you to show off your legs especially if you've been in the gym all winter. Please do not distort this and make this into showing off your butt!!! This is about legs and I cannot condone naked butts. Both the skirts/ shorts and heels will elongate your legs. If you have any questions about leg workout look through Pinterest. Trust me there are so many simple workout routines there. When in doubt you can follow my Pinterest Workout page! Evelyn 'Luxiestar' Smith, add me.

Day Dates

Day Dates
Spring is no doubt around the corner!!!! No more SPRINTER!!!!! It comes that time of year when the weather is starting to get nice. For those of you in a relationship this may mean day dates. Day dates are those dates that take place during the day. You could be going to the museum or an arts festival. When going on day dates it may not be appropriate for you to wear heels. That's fine! I find that some women can dress to the TEE but don't know how to dress down. Dressing down doesn't mean you need to be frumpy. I put together a look that is simple, classic, chic, and most importantly comfortable! My biggest pet peeve is seeing someone dressed in heels at a fair or festival. I feel like you are trying way too hard to get attention. This look has ripped boyfriend jeans (which are super comfy!!!!!), a vintage tee, a crossbody bag, and a pair of TOMS shoes. Just because you are going on a day date with your love doesn't mean you can't be comfortably chic!

Romper/ Playsuit Fun!

Romper/ Playsuit Fun!So SPRINTER is almost over Hopefully! So its about time to switch out those heavy wool sweaters with something a little lighter. Time to pull out those rompers/ playsuits. I personally love playsuits! I'm not really a big pants wearer. So playsuits give you the comfort of pants without being too restrictive. They are super easy and comfortable. You can dress them up or dress them down. Good for going to the mall or a night on the town. I really like that you can wear them to multiple places. This particular look I created for a evening out. Nice date look or drinks with the girls. Show those legs!

SPANX: A Girl's Best Friend

So Spanx. Everyone has a feeling toward them. Some ladies like them and some don't. I
addressed this issue in another one of older blogs (I had so many). But I would like them time to talk about them here. Spanx ALL WOMEN NEED THEM! Wearing Spanx is not an insult. They help to smooth everything out. Spanx help create a clean line. Its not all about sucking everything in (which they do). The picture I selected helps show this point. By wearing Spanx she has created clean lines. Spanx also reduce static cling. So everyone no matter your size should get a pair just to help you create clean lines.
