Marilyn Monroe Inspired Look

Marilyn Monroe Inspired Look
Like every fashionista out there I look to Marilyn. I look to her mostly because I love old movies and she was definitely a staple. She was and still is a house hold name. I wanted to do this look because sex is usually the first thing that comes to mind when thinking about Marilyn. BUT! If you look at her at home it seems she was most in a short sleeve turtle neck.

She was her everyday look was so simple! I mean really simple. The main look that I created can be found anywhere inexpensively. Short sleeved turtlenecks and capri pants! I included a red version of the iconic white dress she wore over the vent. I like to remember her humanity. She was thrust into the spotlight as a sex symbol but what about the soul underneath the smile? This picture shows her in her element. She's known for her song "Diamonds are a a girl's best friend." In the end, diamonds couldn't help this torture soul. I venture to say that peace is a girl's best friend.

I'll take a Refill! Over Here Ms. Varner!

Yes ma'am! I will take a refill of that urban, funky, 80's, nerd style your serving! I love Elle! I think she is adorable. Her oversized glasses, the oversized bow in her perfectedly define curls. Can this lady do any wrong? Not only that but she is truly talented. I love her music which only adds to her charm. So Fly, is an anthem for all ladies out. Its honest genuine and deeply human. *Le Sigh*

I first saw her perform on the first Black Girls Rock ( the only decent program that BET has. I do not in anyway support any of that other foolishness they bombard us with. Shame on Deborah). Her performance was out of the ordinary and so was her style. I loved her big glasses and the bow she was wearing. The biggest thing I love about her is her hair! #teamnatural I am all about keeping your hair the way God made it.

I really appreciate the fact that Elle is not overly sexualized. She has an amazing body but she does not sell flesh. She sells music!!  She doesn't use her body to sell albums, she uses her voice. As a Christian, I believe it is important to indentify women who personify womanhood. I think Elle is a good role model for little girls. I can't wait to see how her style evolves and what's next for her. Keep making hits, Ms. Varner!

From the Runway to the Sanctuary

From the Runway to the Sanctuary
This one is for my edgy ladies! I realized I had a lot of dresses so I decided to try to include more pants! As I was finishing this look, I thought maybe this is too much. But it is black and white. Jesus also said come as you are; there are plenty of edgy ladies out there. I love this look, I'm not sure if I would wear heels with this though. I would probably do flats. I think this is good for a Sunday morning church and then afternoon outing with the ladies. Most ladies already have 80% of this outfit in their closets. The you can different pants but the pants are the wow factor with this outfit.

Doesn't Need Help: Octavia Spencer

We have all seen 'The Help'. It comes on CineMax like everyday. But who may not be familiar with is Octavia Spencer. This lovely actress has flown under the radar for virtually her entire career. But after she the Academy Award for her role in 'The Help' it seems like all eyes are on her.

Ms. Specncer never disappoints! She is always Red Carpet Perfect! Every Red Carpet she has grace she was nothing less then beautiful. Her dresses always hug her curves bringing out the beauty of her body. I can't wait to see more of her!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!I decided to put together a Valentine's Date Night outfit. I'm all about being sexy without showing your lady parts. This outfit features a body con skirt. Now I've personally never worn anything body con because I'm afraid it will cling too much. I love this skirt because it has some stretch. The tops are very sexy without being over the top. I feel this look is everything a Valentine's outfit should be. Its subtle, sexy, classy, and lady like. Have fun, be safe and most of all STAY A LADY!

Christian Fashion Week???

As promised from one of my many posts in the past I am trying to keep you updated on all things fashion and keep it Christian. I was searching the internet yesterday trying to find any news on Christian fashion designers (which will be coming to you soon!!). When I found out that there is actually a Christian Fashion Week! The down side of this whole thing is the event was this past weekend :( . Nevertheless I'm still excited!!! I really want to go next year and I'm sure there are lots of  other fashionistas who want to experience this event. There are alot of critics out there. But to those haters I say this, just because I am a Christian doesn't mean I don't like fashion! Everyone is concerned with the way they look. Appearance is everything in this world. Because I am in the world and not of it I play, I choose to look nice and still be modest. Check out the link above and read the write up by the Huffington Post.

Grammy's Continued

Ashanti. Ashanti. Ashanti. I am not a fan of this um dress at all. There is too much going on. The huge opening in the front of the dress. The little flowers. The sheer parts. This dress is definitely not what you want to wear if you are trying to make a come back. Ashanti has a beautiful figure. I'm not sure why she chose to hide it in this monstrous dress. Thumbs down on this look.
Jesus take the Wheel!! Girl you look fabulous!! Ms. Underwood is serving up some major girl next door meets sex kitten! I love this dress! I love the smoky eye. I love the statement necklace. Everything about this dress is working for me. I know that I told you all that I loved Ms. Rowland's look. But this is my favorite because Carrie is serving it up right! Especially because her body is covered. The secret to being a woman is not showing everything that makes you one!

Grammy Awards !!!!!!!!!!!!!

)Well one of the most spectular nights in fashion just occured. The Grammy's! (I purposely saved this post for today. I knew everyone everywhere would be talking about it.) Kelly Rowland stepped out on the red carpet looking A-MAZ-ING!!! I guess her work out dvds really do numbers. Ms. Rowland is giving me life with dress. I love how everything else is understated. This dress lives on its own. Bravo, Ms. Rowland!!!!!!!!!!

Rihanna loves her reds. But I'm not completely sold on this look. I think the red is too bright. The red is wearing her and she is not wearing the red. She has a yellow undertone so dare I say that this bright of a red does not completely compliment her. If this dress was a shade or two darker I would have loved this look. The dress is beautiful and elegant. I just don't like the color. Not a fan of this dress in this color. But I do like the dress.

There is more commentary to come. So stay tuned.

Does Christ care about Passions?

Sometimes I ask myself this. I usually only ask when there are those around me who are always like "What can you do with fashion?" I know that most of us aren't preachers or teachers, it is not for everyone. Sometimes we asks ourselves "How can I glorify Christ?" or "God, I'm really good are thinking outside the box what can I do with that?" The answer to this question in short is YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If God knows the desires of your heart, why wouldn't He care? God knows everything about you because He loves and cares about you. Creativity is something that is often times over looked. If you are creative such as myself, you sometimes get discouraged because you think you will not be effective in the Kingdom of God. But that is quite the opposite! Look around you. Look at a sunrise/ sunset. Look at the moon. Take a hard look at a snowflake. Take a look deeper inside your body. God is the most creative of all! Creativity breeds new ideas. Creativity makes the world less boring. God does care about that doodle during a morning meeting. He also cares about that new exciting idea you have. You have to remember that whatever you do, do it in the love of Christ and do it for His Glory!

You are His unique creation. Uniqueness is a form of creativity. God cares about everything even the creative individuals.

Allow me to Introduce myself......

Although I have quite a few posts, I have not had the opportunity to introduce myself. I'm Evie. This blog started out as a class assignment for my fashion writing class. But I really want to continue to write here. One of the main reasons is that I feel that there is a void in the fashion industry of Christians. Not the ones who say I was raised christian but I don't go anymore. I mean real sold out Christians! The Christians who not only read what the Word say but also lives it out. Being Christian is the single most important thing to me. As I stated in one of my earlier posts, I'm not going to force feed you the bible. What I am going to do is offer fashion tips for women who desire to be fashionable and modest. I'm also going to give you somethings to think about. I will try to bring you news related to Christianity and Fashion. I really hope that you like what I have to bring you. Until next post!

Dorothy Dandridge Inspired Look

Dorothy Dandrige Inspired LookI love me some Carmen Jones! That movie was awesome. Harry Belafonte and Dorothy Dandridge were a match made in cinema heaven. As you can probably tell I love the fashions of the 40's and 50's. Clothing was constructed better and the material was of actual quality. Being sexy wasn't something that was so overt. Ms. Dandridge had a lovely figure but she did not going around exposing it to everyone. Her neck, shoulders, and collar bone were her signatures. She was fiesty and that is what inspired this look.

The off the shoulder tops are definitely a signature of Ms. Dandridge. So I included them here. The look is complete with leggings and ballet flats. The animal print flats bring a sense of fun. Simple. Clean. Classic. Sexy. I especially love this look because women of all shapes and sizes can grap ahold of their inner sexy with this look. This look is perfect for the end of Sprinter going into Spring.  This year let's be ladies and be sexy at the same time!

Runway to the Sanctuary

Runway to the SanctuarySprinter is heavily upon us!! *shudder* But never fear even in the depths on knee deep snow fashion can be found! This past Sunday as most of you know was first Sunday. Most churches receive communion on first Sundays. Even the most liberal churches observe this ritual. First Sunday is usually reserved for black and white. Now everyone loves a little black dress but no one wants to wear black every month! So this First Sunday I wore a cream colored chiffon dresss, thus the inspiration for this post. This dress has a lace overlay. Its really pretty and feminine. The shoes bring an edge to this pretty dress. The bangles and layered necklace bring extra drama. I love this look. Here is another church appropriate look for you ladies!
